- On today's podcast, we're joined by Joanna Lockhart to talk about the highs, lows and unexpected twists of her confidence journey with her horse, Laila.
At 48, Jo inherited the ride on Laila from her daughter, despite having barely ridden since she was a teenager. What followed was a journey that tested her confidence, resilience and determination in ways she never expected. From taking 20 minutes just to get on, to hiding around the back of the stables because she felt embarrassed by her lack of skills and experience, Jo knows all too well what it feels like to lose confidence in the saddle.
A turning point came at Confidence Camp, where Jo discovered something incredibly important: she wasn't the only one. Being surrounded by other riders experiencing the same fears and frustrations helped her realise that confidence isn't about being fearless – and that progress doesn't always happen in a straight line.
Fast forward a few years and, after plenty of progress, Jo experienced a setback when she fractured her back. Yet what could have felt like another blow to her confidence ultimately helped lay some of the most important foundations for her relationship with Laila.
In this honest and inspiring conversation, Jo reflects on the moments when she wanted to give up, the setbacks that changed her perspective, and how she went from simply trying to get on her horse to genuinely enjoying their time together.
It's a brilliant reminder that confidence isn't about becoming a different rider – it's about finding your own way forward, one step at a time, with a big smile on your face. - On today's podcast, Liz Daniels is excited to be joined by Alec Lochore with his Scone Palace International Horse Trials hat on.
Alec is the Event Director of the Scone Palace International Horse Trials, and one of the world's leading course designers, with experience spanning Olympic Games, World Championships and major international events.
As Scone Palace International Horse Trials is entering its second year (in its new format), Alec shares his memories of riding at Scone in the 90's, his vision for the new event, what he hopes riders and spectators will take away.
Alec gives us a sneak peek behind the scenes, revealing his favourite fences, the best views on the course, and how the course is designed to be ridden.

From tracking your cycle, to understanding where those confidence dips can come from, Amy shares how her own research has positively impacted her life, and how you can reduce the challenging Autumn days. Remember - confidence is transient, just because you have a day with low confidence, doesn't mean the next day will be the same.
