Chris, Jordan, and Jaron spend some time discussing topics they didn't get to mention in their first impressions of Apple's latest handhelds. While there is plenty to say about the new iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max, the trio also needed to talk about the new medium format Fujifilm GFX 100 II, a camera that grabbed headlines despite releasing the same day as Apple's big event. A spirited discussion, the team debates who this camera is actually for, what it is best at, and how it fits into an already pretty crowded photo market, especially at its $7,500 asking price. Finally, Chris, Jordan, and Jaron chat with photographer Blair Bunting and answer some of your questions about his flight to the edge of space. We used Riverside to record our interview with photographer Blair Bunting. -- In This Episode 00:00 - Intro 03:00 - Who is the Fujifilm GFX 100 II For? 11:28 - What We Didn't Say About the Apple iPhone 15 27:56 - Chris can't sleep 29:14 - Tech Support 37:39 - Blair Bunting answers questions about his photo shoot at the edge of space 01:04:00 - Never read the comments

"The World’s First U2 Spy Plane Photo Shoot at the Edge of Space" is the story of how photographer Blair Bunting spent the better part of a year planning and training to take a Cold War-era spy plane up to the edge of space to perform a photo shoot that had never previously been attempted, and likely will never happen again. If you haven't seen it yet, we strongly recommend you watch it first before enjoying this podcast. • What the Heck is Sony THINKING?!
Yesterday, Sony added two more cameras to its line of interchangeable cameras which brought the line to no less than 18 total choices from entry-level through professional. That is just too many. Today’s podcast episode is once again brought to you by OM SYSTEM. For over 80 years, OM SYSTEM has been pushing the limits of technology to put the most advanced cameras and lenses in the hands of photographers and visual creators. Whether photographing grizzly bears in the Alaskan wilderness, documenting the most remote landscapes in the world, or capturing those once-in-a-lifetime moments with your family, the OM SYSTEM line of cameras and lenses was designed for the task. OM SYSTEM is making truly incredible advancements that make the lives of us photographers both easier and more exciting. Visit explore.omsystem.com/PetaPixel to learn more. Sony has made it a company policy to discontinue camera bodies and lenses as infrequently as possible, which has the advantage of giving buyers more choice when it comes to determining how to spend their money. Continuing to sell the Sony a7 II, for example, even though there a7 IV is the most recent addition to that section of the line allows a photographer to decide to spend less on a camera if they don't think they need as many features. But on the flip side, it results in a camera line that has an amorphous beginning and end. Seeing so many choices ends up becoming more of a detriment than a benefit. In this week's PetaPixel Podcast, Chris, Jordan, and Jaron talk about this problem and do their best to point out how difficult it has become to recommend a specific camera for a specific use case given the bloated nature of Sony's camera line. Additionally, the trio talks the latest news including the booming popularity of Ricoh's GR III and a new lens patent from Canon that is easily the weirdest design they've ever seen. We use Riverside to record all our episodes in our online recording studio. Discussed in this Episode: 00:00 - Intro 3:59 - The GR III is so popular, Ricoh can't keep it in stock 8:42 - Demand for cameras is exploding in China 10:28 - Canon's latest lens patent is one of the weirdest designs we've ever seen 14:47 - Sony completes the G Master zoom trifecta 21:15 - Sony expands the "Compact" line with two new additions 30:00 - What is Sony thinking? It's camera line is too bloated 47:47 - What have you been up to? 54:31 - Never read the comments We hope you enjoy the podcast and we look forward to hearing what you think. If you like what you hear, please support us by subscribing, liking, commenting, and reviewing! Visit explore.omsystem.com/petapixel to learn more. – This week, Chris, Jordan, and Jaron tackle the topic of lens breathing and whether or not it is "blown" out of proportion (pun intended). You see, Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki spoke with PetaPixel contributor and former Imaging Resource publisher David Etchells, and Yamaki says that YouTube reviewers might be putting too much emphasis on lens breathing, which could take away development time and emphasis from other important lens manufacturing endeavors. Chris and Jordan obviously have an opinion on that, and they weigh in. Additionally, the trio talk about the "scam" of printer ink, how Western Digital is now being sued by three groups for the SanDisk SSD fiasco, and Chris and Jordan explain what other lens terms mean so you can be better informed when you listen to their next review. We use Riverside to record all our episodes in our online recording studio.
