Some hauntings don’t scream — they whisper. They begin with a reflection that doesn’t belong, a heartbeat that quickens before the mind can name the fear.
Jill from Illinois experiences a haunting unlike any other. It starts on a quiet night at her computer, when a friend’s frantic message flashes across her screen: “There’s something behind you.” She turns toward the kitchen—and in the mirrored surface of the dishwasher, she sees him.

Built in 1854 by Armstrong Beattie, a five-time mayor and banker, and his wife Eliza, the Beattie Mansion has seen everything from elegance to sorrow. Over the years, it became a refuge for the homeless, orphans, and the elderly — but many believe some of its guests never truly checked out.
Today, the mansion’s long history still echoes through its halls — in whispers, footsteps, and cold spots that appear out of nowhere. Armstrong and Eliza’s spirits are said to linger, forever watching over their home like spectral landlords. Contractors hired to work on the building often don’t last long. Tools vanish. Doors slam. And unseen hands seem to make their disapproval known.
For nearly 170 years, the Beattie Mansion has been a monument to both Missouri’s history and its hauntings — a place where the past is still very much alive.

Sleep Paralysis… or Real Possession? | After Midnight
Some hauntings start with a knock in the dark. Hers began at age four with a bed that shook on its own—and a garage door slamming in the middle of the night when no one was there. This is a true story of a haunting that matured with its victim: from a child’s terror to a teenager’s incubus-like dreams, to an adult who made one mistake—asking a DIY Ouija board if anyone was there. The board answered with two letters: R.C.
What followed is the kind of real haunting you can’t shrug off. Sleep paralysis that felt too physical to dismiss. A voice at her ear saying, “It’s me.” A blackout at 3 a.m., a dead phone, scraping in the wall, and a whisper: “You shouldn’t have called me back.” She burned the board, prayed, salted, begged it to leave.
