Growing up in the 1980s, he and his friends had something most kids only dream about—an abandoned campground deep in the woods of upstate New York.

For the first few weeks, the house felt like exactly what they had been hoping for—quiet, ordinary, and finally their own. After years of apartments and temporary places, it was the kind of space where everything was supposed to settle down.
