  Psalm 85, NIVFor the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.1 You, Lord, showed favor to your land;    you restored the fortunes of Jacob.2 You forgave the iniquity of your people    and covered all their sins.[b]3 You set aside all your wrath    and turned from your fierce anger.4 Restore us again, God our Savior,    and put away your displeasure toward us.5 Will you be angry with us forever?    Will you prolong your anger through all generations?6 Will you not revive us again,    that your people may rejoice in you?7 Show us your unfailing love, Lord,    and grant us your salvation.8 I will listen to what God the Lord says;    he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—    but let them not turn to folly.9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,    that his glory may dwell in our land.10 Love and faithfulness meet together;    righteousness and peace kiss each other.11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,    and righteousness looks down from heaven.12 The Lord will indeed give what is good,    and our land will yield its harvest.13 Righteousness goes before him    and prepares the way for his steps.

  As we continue our series, 'The King Who Came to Serve', we are looking at the next servant song this week in Isaiah 49:1-7, NIV.The Servant of the Lord49 Listen to me, you islands;    hear this, you distant nations:Before I was born the Lord called me;    from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.2 He made my mouth like a sharpened sword,    in the shadow of his hand he hid me;he made me into a polished arrow    and concealed me in his quiver.3 He said to me, “You are my servant,    Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.”4 But I said, “I have labored in vain;    I have spent my strength for nothing at all.Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand,    and my reward is with my God.”5 And now the Lord says—    he who formed me in the womb to be his servantto bring Jacob back to him    and gather Israel to himself,for I am[a] honored in the eyes of the Lord    and my God has been my strength—6 he says:“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant    to restore the tribes of Jacob    and bring back those of Israel I have kept.I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,    that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”7 This is what the Lord says—    the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel—to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation,    to the servant of rulers:“Kings will see you and stand up,    princes will see and bow down,because of the Lord, who is faithful,    the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

  This Sunday marked week 1 of a 4 part series looking at the 4 servant songs in Isaiah. Scriptures written some 700 years before Jesus which clearly identify Him and what He'll come to do...The passage this week is taken from Isaiah 42:1-9, NIV.The Servant of the Lord42 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold,    my chosen one in whom I delight;I will put my Spirit on him,    and he will bring justice to the nations.2 He will not shout or cry out,    or raise his voice in the streets.3 A bruised reed he will not break,    and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;4     he will not falter or be discouragedtill he establishes justice on earth.    In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”5 This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out,    who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it,    who gives breath to its people,    and life to those who walk on it:6 “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;    I will take hold of your hand.I will keep you and will make you    to be a covenant for the people    and a light for the Gentiles,7 to open eyes that are blind,    to free captives from prison    and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.8 “I am the Lord; that is my name!    I will not yield my glory to another    or my praise to idols.9 See, the former things have taken place,    and new things I declare;before they spring into being    I announce them to you.”

  Today's message is the last instalment of our sermon series 'Be Weird', and Pat shares on 'Signs and Wonders' from Mark 16:9-20. We have the privilege of hearing from Dieudonné Nahimana off the back end of Pat's sermon, sharing his experience of the Power of God in his life, and his powerful testimony of growing up in genocide in Burundi. New International Version[The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.]9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

• 'Be Weird' - Prioritising the Presence - Will Josten - Sunday 23rd February 2025

  Exodus 3333 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ 2 I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 3 Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”4 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’” 6 So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.The Tent of Meeting7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 8 And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent. 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.Moses and the Glory of the Lord12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”
