We’re tackling product waste and the beauty trends which need to go bye-bye on this episode of The Double Cleanse!

After discovering that Americans can actually return used cosmetics (!!), James and Robert are diving into the shocking amount of product waste in beauty retail. From damaged-on-purpose makeup to prevent theft and dumpster diving, to products that literally can't go back on the shelf even if they're unopened, the twins reveal just how wasteful the industry is.

Then they expose a particularly egregious TikTok trend: a woman bragging about returning her sixth perfume to Sephora in one week – products that immediately get thrown away instead of resold. The waste is real, and it's infuriating.

James and Robert are also predicting which beauty trends are about to go extinct! They're calling out the death of glossy, dewy lip products and hydrating lip oils are on their way out. They discuss the cyclical nature of trends: glass skin peaked, now we're heading into matte everything like it's the 90s all over again.

They also celebrate the return of peel-off masks, obsess over blue sheet masks and predict the rise of fruit-based skincare ingredients (apple, banana, avocado) making a major comeback.

He reads out the offending shade names and rightfully questions why our lips need to be reduced to sexual objects in product marketing. Whatever happened to empowerment and self love in beauty?

They're calling out influencers overselling "vintage" film camera aesthetics as revolutionary when it's just low-quality pictures you can replicate with a filter in one click. They're absolutely roasting the TikTok Shop towel warmer dispenser. And most importantly, they're fed up with brands literally inventing problems to sell solutions. Hot towels? No one asked for that. Shitty quality photos? Buy our camera! Walking upstairs wrong? Get our backwards slippers!

The message is loud and clear: it's okay to be excited about products, but stop overselling and stop making up fake needs!

In Korea, brands treat makeup as interchangeable across all genders – no "for men" nonsense needed. The twins discuss how Gen Z is normalizing men wearing makeup (think: Dominic Fike at the Met Gala), yet Western brands still treat men's skincare like a joke – either downplaying ingredients or going hypermasculine with grenade-shaped lip balms instead of just making good products.

The verdict? Men deserve access to quality skincare and makeup, whether that's through unisex brands OR properly formulated men's lines – just stop making it embarrassing or basic!
