Brandy Azeirwe sits down with Claire Ollama from National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) highlights the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national identification services and improve citizen access to registration.
During the discussion, Claire emphasized the importance of the National Identification system in supporting service delivery, national planning, and security in Uganda. She noted that NIRA continues to expand registration services to ensure more Ugandans obtain National Identification Numbers (NINs), which are increasingly required to access government and financial services. She also spoke about ongoing initiatives to improve public awareness, communication, and digital service delivery, ensuring that citizens clearly understand registration processes, requirements, and the benefits of being registered in the national database.

Addressing public concerns, Claire acknowledged challenges such as long queues and delays during peak registration periods but assured that NIRA is implementing measures to improve efficiency, including system upgrades and enhanced coordination with other government agencies. The conversation concluded with a call for greater public cooperation and timely registration, emphasizing that a robust national identification system is critical for inclusive development and effective governance.
