Bat boxes, white rabbits and the Reef tour bus: Interview with Russell Papaphone

    14/10/2026 | 29 mins.
In the latest episode of the 100% unofficial Glastonbury Festival Podcast (which recently hit number 1 in the music category on Apple Podcasts!), Paul chats to Russell from Papaphone.

They chat about Glastonbury in the late 90s and what it's like to perform at the festival every year. Russell first went to Glastonbury in 1997, where he jumped over the fence - as most people did in those days. He took a break after Glastonbury 2000 but returned to Worthy Farm at Glastonbury 2017 and has played every Glastonbury since then.

Russell shares some favourite tales from Glastonbury - as a performer and as punter - over the years. They also cover attending Glastonbury sober, white rabbits and Bat Boxes.

You can find Russell's music here:
    instagram.com/papaphone.music.

If you are looking to attend Glastonbury sober, there are multiple social media groups that connect people in the same position, for example local recovery networks such as Sober Somerset or general alcohol-free and drug-free groups like Sober Events UK.
