Support us on Patreon 👉https://www.patreon.com/missingepisodes 🙌  Tip us on https://ko-fi.com/missingeps  Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/drwhopodcasters  The Doctor Who Missing Episodes Podcast is back!  Our next story in the regular series is the last of the pure historicals—making it the perfect time to reflect on the place of the historical adventure in early Doctor Who. To mark the occasion, Tim is joined by historian, broadcaster, and co-host of the acclaimed The Rest Is History podcast, Dominic Sandbrook.  Dominic’s work on post-war Britain often considers how television both shaped and reflected the culture of the time—Doctor Who included. In this special episode, he discusses his love for the show, the historicals, their context, and how they fit into the broader legacy of the show’s formative years.  So pull the caravan into a way station, put the human sacrifice on hold and delay storming the Bastille, because the podcast hiatus is over, literally the rest is history. • Doctor Who: The Missing Episodes Podcast - Episode 16 - The Power of the Daleks
Support us on Patreon 👉https://www.patreon.com/missingepisodes 🙌 Tip us on https://ko-fi.com/missingeps Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/drwhopodcasters It’s episode 16 of The Missing Episodes Podcast! The third story of season 4 introduces Patrick Troughton as a very different Doctor Who, if indeed he is The Doctor. A question which divides the rest of the TARDIS crew, Ben and Polly. But despite this fundamental change to the show, this story doesn’t sit around navel gazing. We’re quickly immersed in the politics of Vulcan as David Whitaker returns to pen one of the truly great Dalek stories. Tim is joined not only by Doctor Who historian Rhys Williams, but three new podcast guests: Something Who podcast host Richard Smith and multi-media producer and DVD range veteran John Kelly. Later, co-host of the most excellent 42 to Doomsday podcast, Rob Mammone, drops by to tell us how he helped to recover some of the many clips that exist of this story. The team delve into the history, production and themes of this six-part classic, then explore how so many clips came back, then it’s off on a world tour to work out whether one day we might get to see any more… So put on your Earth examiner badge, listen more carefully than Lesterson and avoid the mercury vapours as we take a very deep dive into The Power of the Daleks. • Doctor Who: The Missing Episodes Podcast - Episode 15 - The Tenth Planet
Support us on Patreon 👉https://www.patreon.com/missingepisodes 🙌 Tip us on https://ko-fi.com/missingeps Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/drwhopodcasters We’re back just and in time to see off the First Doctor. Yes, it’s episode 15 of The Missing Episodes Podcast! The second story of season 4 sees not only the end of the wonderful Hartnell era, but the introduction of a foe that will be back for decades to come: The Cybermen. Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis get their first co-writing credit and riff on a truly terrifying theme: what happens if you replace increasing amounts of a person with spare parts? What becomes of their soul? Tim is joined by content creator and camera-script investigator, David Gillespie-Pratt, and we have a very welcome return for vintage TV expert and curator of “From the Archive”, Greg Bakun. Thankfully the team are less care-free than the Cybermen and have greater detective skills that the world’s scientists (which isn’t difficult in this one) as they delve into the story’s successes and failures. Then it’s off on the usual world tour, as we look at what happened to the film prints of The Tenth Planet and what the chances are of ever seeing some more of it! So put on your best snow cap, keep Geneva on hold and join us as we take a very deep dive into The Tenth Planet. • Doctor Who: The Missing Episodes Podcast - Special Edition - Film Collectors
Support us on Patreon 👉https://www.patreon.com/missingepisodes 🙌 Tip us on https://ko-fi.com/missingeps Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/drwhopodcasters It’s a SPECIAL EDITION of The Missing Episodes Podcast. Since private collector Terry Burnett returned two episodes in 2011 and the announcement in 2013 of nine episodes found in Nigeria, to date, no further missing episodes have been returned, despite the fact that episodes are known to exist in private hands. So, as they’re the most viable option for further Doctor Who missing episode returns in the future, it’s time to talk film collectors. TV producer and missing episodes expert Paul Vanezis, along with well-connected and established film collectors John Clancy and John Franklin join Tim for a frank and colourful discussion on the hobby of film collecting and the film collecting community. What is film collecting? Why do people collect film? Is there much interest in TV on film and how much of it is about? How did material make its way from copyright holders into collections? What is the size and state of film collecting today as a hobby? What are attitudes like about secrecy? Are film collectors deliberately hoarding missing episodes? The truth is probably more complicated than you think… We learn that many collections are tragically ending up in landfill on a regular basis, so what can be done about that? One solution, being worked on by the panel, is to hold a film collectors’ event and we get to learn all about October’s “Film is Fabulous” and what that might reveal… With enormous thanks John and John for taking the time to talk to a Doctor Who fan and indeed to Paul for making this happen. Support us on Patreon 👉https://www.patreon.com/missingepisodes 🙌 Tip us on https://ko-fi.com/missingeps Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/drwhopodcasters It’s episode 14 of The Missing Episodes Podcast! The first story of season 4 sees the Lloyd/Davis soft reboot continue, with a trip to 19th Century Cornwall. Brian Hayles returns to write the first truly generic historical, which see groovy new companions Ben and Polly embark on their first adventure in time and space. What more do you need in a 19th Century historical romp than pirates vs smugglers vs revenue men? Tim is joined by colouriser Rich Tipple https://www.itsfarfrombeingallover.co... and researcher Rhys Williams (Doctor Who Magazine) who are all more accepting of the concept of time travel than Ben. Together they tackle the questions of why The Smugglers tends to slip from fans’ minds, what The Smugglers might have looked like and how successful (or otherwise) it was. Then it’s off on the usual world tour, as we look at where The Smugglers sold, what the Aussie and New Zealand censors thought and what the chances are of ever seeing some more of it are.
