As quite the opposite of being a filthy casual, I’ll happily watch whatever trailers the MCU gives me and then judge the marketing promo after all the teasers are released.The Countdown BeginsThe hotly anticipated first teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday has officially arrived and with it some substantial reveals. The trailer originally debuted attached ahead of select screenings of Avatar: Fire & Ash last weekend, as expected, before being released online Tuesday morning. Prior to Tuesday morning’s drop, reputable film industry trades like Variety already wasted no time running will spoiler-filled headlines addressing the spoilers and the week preceding the official release was plagued with leaked versions of varying quality sweeping the Internet; so, we’ve waiting long enough ourselves - spoilers inbound if you’ve somehow managed to avoid them. The trailer is here whether we like the release strategy or not; what do we think of our first official look at Doomsday?Brainiac On the DancefloorJames Gunn’s quest to find the DCU’s Brainiac has come to end, as Lars Eidenger’s begins as he’s been cast to play the classic villain in Superman sequel: Man of Tomorrow. The German actor, largely unfamiliar to American audiences but acclaimed for European work like Babylon Berlin, will face off against David Corenswet's Man of Steel and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor in the sequel releasing July 9, 2027. Gunn has a penchant for taking gambles on relative unknowns and launching them to stardom, can he do it again for such an iconic and formidable foe?A Blue Christmas on Pandora?The aforementioned James Cameron's Avatar: Fire & Ash ignited the box office with a $345 million global opening weekend but opened roughly 22 percent below The Way of Water's $441 million debut. Early projections suggest Fire & Ash will finish around 1.7 to 1.8 billion worldwide rather than joining the elite $2 billion club like its predecessors, raising serious questions about whether Disney will greenlight Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. Has Cameron’s box office dominance finally cooled off, or will the holiday legs carry Fire & Ash to the heights The All-Mother demands?Putting the Eye in IMAXChristopher Nolan's The Odyssey dropped its eagerly awaited first official trailer, showcasing Matt Damon in the title role battling to return home after the Trojan War in an epic shot entirely with new IMAX film camera technology. The highly anticipated adaptation features a stacked cast including Tom Holland as Odysseus' son Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope, with the film already selling out 70MM Imax tickets at AMC and Regal ahead of its July 17, 2026 release. Speaking of teases, sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Marvel plans to show four different Doomsday teaser trailers that will play in front of Avatar: Fire & Ash. Last week we speculated about what Scarlett Johansson’s role might be in The Batman II…and didn’t have to wait long to find out! Prominent leaker The InSneider reported Johansson will be cast as Gilda Dent, wife of Harvey Dent or Two-Face. It is also reported the studio is looking around to cast Harvey and his father, Christopher Dent, though this is all unconfirmed by DC Studios at this time. Hunger Games fans, rejoice! Peeta and Katniss return, as Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return to the Hunger Games prequel film, Sunrise on the Reaping. While no details are truly known, with the movie focusing on other characters and a different time period, it looks likely that these two will appear in a flash forward or something of that nature. This second prequel film releases next year on November 20.Rob and Michele Reiner both died this week tragically. Rob Reiner directed countless memorable films such as The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal, and The American President plus so many more.Sony is moving forward with a third installment of the 28 Years Later franchise. Cillian Murphy is in talks to return to star after kicking off the franchise more than 20 years ago with 28 Days Later. Franchise writer Alex Garland is working on the script.Zootopia 2 crossed the $1 billion dollar global box office mark this weekend, the fastest for any PG film in history.Less than two weeks after it was revealed that Paramount had partnered with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster on a reboot of Paranormal Activity, The Hollywood Reporter has learned the project is now landing a director: rising Canadian filmmaker Ian Tuason.Lucas FIlm has announced a handful of upcoming Star Wars projects over the last few days including two video games, one an RPG titled The Fate of the Old Republic, and another a racing game titled Star Wars: Galactic Racer. In addition, a five issue miniseries focusing on Darth Maul will also kick off in March of next year and will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Darth Maul TV series. The issues will be written by Benjamin Percy and feature art by Madibek Musabeckov.The first trailer has been released for Street Fighter, which hits theaters on October 16, 2026.Slow Horses star Zachary Hart and Lola Petticrew, who most recently starred in FX's Say Nothing have been cast as series regulars in Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series.Sources tell Deadline that Disney is in early development on a film centered on the Beauty and the Beast character Gaston. Dave Callaham is writing the script with Michelle Rejwan producing. No director is attached at this time.Universal has pulled M3GAN spinoff SOULM8TE from the release calendar, and the film is expected to be shopped to other studios. The film was originally set to release on Jan. 8, 2026.Universal has released the first trailer for Steven Spielberg's upcoming alien invasion film titled Disclosure Day, which stars Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor. The film is set to open on June 12 of next year.Jacobi Jupe, currently starring in one of this award season’s top contenders, Hamnet, will star opposite Scarlet Johansson in Blumhouse and Universal’s latest take on The Exorcist.

Also concerning DC: Four years after leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind, Scarlett Johansson seems headed for Gotham City, with the actress in final negotiations to join The Batman Part II. Details about Johansson's potential role are being closely guarded, though speculation has already run rampant about which iconic Batman character she might portray, though being a new love interest for Bruce Wayne in some capacity is a popular guess in the wake of unconfirmed reports that Zoe Kravitz might not reprise her role in the sequel.More than seven years after its original theatrical run, Marvel Studios is bringing Avengers: Endgame, the second-highest-grossing film of all time, back to theaters September 25, 2026 just months before Avengers: Doomsday later that December. While it's still unknown how long the Russos Brothers’ last MCU contribution will be back to the big screen, the placement between the releases of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July and Doomsday in December, has fueled industry insider speculation suggesting the new Avengers film will act as a direct sequel to Endgame rather than closely following the events of Phases 4 through 6.HBO has revealed that the third season of Euphoria will begin streaming in April of 2026. This comes more than four years after Season 2 finished in February 2022.Hulu has renewed the Glen Powell led sports comedy series Chad Powers for a second season.20th Century Studios announced The Simpsons Movie 2 has been delayed from July 23, 2027 to September 3, 2027. Paramount and Blumhouse are reviving the Paranormal Activity franchise and bringing on James Wan to produce a new feature film in the franchise according to the Hollywood Reporter. Variety and CNN have revealed the star-studded lineup for the 23rd season of Actors on Actors. Some of the participants include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Dwayne Johnson, Julia Roberts, and Ariana Grande. Sony Pictures has tapped Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremner to pen a new Men In Black film. Although plot details are not public, sources tell Deadline that when the script is complete, original series star Will Smith will be the first to read it in hopes that he will return to the franchise in some capacity. Prime Video has released the first trailer for the final season of The Boys. The show has an updated release date of April 8, 2026, which will see the release of two episodes. Episodes will then drop weekly, leading to the series finale on May 20th. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 opened to $109 million dollars worldwide over the weekend, a strong opening for the franchise. Additionally, last weekend's champion Zootopia 2 is nearing the one billion dollar mark with  $915 million dollars worldwide so far. Sigourney Weaver is in talks to join the upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. Sophie Turner is set to star as Lara Croft, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge on as writer and executive producer.

Disney’s sequel sensation continues at the box office, as Zootopia 2 broke records this last weekend when it opened to the highest global box office for an animated film of ALL TIME with $556 million. Other global and domestic records were exceeded and the film paired up with its studio sibling Moana 2, which has the highest Thanksgiving opening of all time and now Zootopia 2 has the second. Wicked: For Good is standing strong at second place in domestic theaters and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is trailing well behind it at third.It’s a feather light news week, so we’re going to talk about some of the most anticipated movies coming out next year and the ones we’re really looking forward to! Paramount has announced that the untitled hybrid live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature from producer Neal H. Moritz will hit theaters Nov. 17, 2028. Additionally, an untitled film in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is set for theatrical release on Dec. 22, 2028.Prime Video’s series adaptation of the popular God Of War video game has added Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye who has worked on Shōgun and The Boys to direct the first two episodes of the action-adventure series from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. He joins Ronald D. Moore, the series’ showrunner, writer and executive producer. The series has also received a two season order and early casting has begun.Justin Lin, best known for his work on the Fast and Furious action movies, is set to direct Sony Pictures’ and PlayStation Productions’ adaptation of Helldivers, based on the popular video game franchise from Arrowhead Game Studios.
