    23. Discerning the Spirit and the Intentions of your Heart

    24/05/2026 | 47 mins.
The Spirit is the one who teaches us about Jesus when He comes to dwell within us.
"But it is the Spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand." Job 32:8
Without the Spirit we are immature in Christ and can lack discernment, as we are told in the letter to the Hebrews.
The Holy Spirit renews our mind so we can understand spiritual things and He cleanses the intentions of our heart, so we no longer focus on worldly desires. Without the Spirit it can be hard to distinguish between our desires and God's will.
In this podcast we look at some of the people in the Bible who lacked discernment and were blinded by their own desires.

    22. Ecclesiastes - The Wisdom of God in a Futile World

    12/04/2026 | 43 mins.
The Book of Ecclesiastes is one of the wisdom books in the Bible. It centres around the futility of life and can seem like a strange book to be included in the scriptures, yet it perfectly reflects how many of us feel on a daily basis. The words of the "Preacher" help us to feel less alone in our despair and remind us to focus on God when life seems confusing. It's a book that many people neglect, so I have read it in full.
"The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh." Ecclesiastes 12:11:12

    21. Fellowship of Light and Darkness

    06/04/2026 | 54 mins.
The Greek word used for "Fellowship" in the New Testament is "Koinonia". It means a deep spiritual partnership. We are to have fellowship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit and each other. This doesn't just mean being part of a church, praying, singing and talking to each other each week. This is an intimate relationship, where we support each other in suffering and encourage each other in our walk with God. This relationship has to be based in the truth in order to be effective.
Paul told the Corinthians to examine themselves to see if they were in the faith because their sinful behaviour testified against them. This practice of self-examination is not encouraged in a church setting today. Self-reflection is usually done alone, rather than with others. We may admit that we are all sinners, but we often use this blanket statement to cover a multitude of personal dysfunction that we would prefer not to acknowledge. This hidden dysfunction then bleeds into our communities and makes our fellowship one of darkness, not light.
Jesus' teaching about repentance and forgiveness sheds light on how we should treat dysfunctional people in our midst. But are we mature enough to hear what he is saying to us today?

    20. The Offensive Teachings of Jesus

    17/02/2026 | 1h 6 mins.
"Blessed is the one who isn't offended by me." Matthew 11:6
Many people were offended by Jesus when he walked on earth, including his own disciples. He wasn't doing what they expected him to do. He wasn't spending time with the "right" people and even though he taught with authority, his teachings were often offensive to those who heard them.
Why aren't we offended by his teachings today? Is it because we don't know what they are or do we simply not understand the deeper meaning? His teachings on salvation, the Remnant, the Kingdom of God, suffering and loss need closer examination if we are to know Jesus as he really is.

    19. What Does it Mean to Have Freedom in Christ?

    12/12/2025 | 53 mins.
In this episode, I speak about what it means to have freedom in Christ. To be "in Christ" means to have a relationship with Him so that we can do the things He calls us to do and live the life He calls us to live. But how do we know whether we are in Christ and how can we make sure we aren't abusing the freedom He has given us?
Many of the arguments between believers are around what we should or shouldn't do or say if we are a Christian, so understanding the level of freedom Christ came to give us if we abide in Him will help us be more charitable with each other. We look at some of Jesus' interactions with the teachers of the Law, the Pharisees, and also Paul's teaching in Colossians, 1 Corinthians and Romans to illustrate what it means to have freedom in Christ, rather than being bound by the Law or human traditions.

About Abide In Me
The A.I.M of this podcast is to help people form an intimate relationship with God and to answer the big life questions: - What was our origin? - Where can we find meaning and purpose? - How do we discern between good and evil, fact and fiction? - What is our ultimate destination? Many today are seeking these answers but not finding them. This is often because they are looking in the wrong places. All the guidance, wisdom, provision, love, forgiveness, hope and peace we seek can be found when we abide in our Creator. Before we can abide in Him, we need to know Him and also what He expects from us. "Abide in Me" was the message Jesus gave to His disciples before He left them. He knew that they would need to be close to Him, by abiding in His Word, if they were to be transformed and in turn transform the world. (John 15) I hope these podcasts open you up to learning about who Jesus was, what he taught and why we should abide in him. All the Bible verses I reference each week are listed in the podcast notes to help you discover the beauty and wisdom of the scriptures. Please listen, share and subscribe.
