Big Fight Weekend Boxing Podcast

We're back on a July 4th holiday weekend (Happy 250 USA!) weekend with a prominent fight card with two world title fights and some interesting fight news to go over, too on the newest "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast!"

First, a preview of the Top Rank DAZN/TNT/truTV “The Fight” debut in Cleveland
Abdullah Mason vs. Albert Bell,, for Mason’s WBO lightweight title. It's a late change with opponent. Could this fight be a better challenge than the original opponent Joe Cordina of Wales would have been. The boys go over it all.
And, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington vs. Rene Palacios, for Carrington’s WBC featherweight title is the co-feature.
And, Tiger Johnson vs. Christopher Guerrero, 10 rounds, welterweights on the undercard too.

The Federal judge in the Southern Distirict of New York has ruled that CSI the promoter trying to stop Floyd Mayweather's Greece ehibition has LOST the temporary restraining order? What does this mean for Mayweather still trying to fight the exhibition soon? And, will the Mike Tyson exhibition now be delayed, too?

Then, former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will face long-faded former title challenger Maruisz Wach on July 24 at Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand, Queensberry Promotions announced on Tuesday. It’s his warm up for the Anthony Joshua fight and as it happens Joshua faces Kristian Prenga the next night Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. WHAT. ARE. WE. DOING,. HERE with this opponent for Fury?!

Dan's reporting that Tony Yoka has a back injury and is out of his July 11th challenge to WBA heavyweight titlist Murat Gassiev in Moscow. Replacement being sought, so goes on.  

Plus, in the wake of Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate his heavyweight titles on Saturday, the IBF has ordered Frank Sanchez and Moses Itauma to meet for the vacant title.  Dan believes this fight will negate the Itauma-Hrgovic fight for August 29th.

Next, the WBO on Tuesday ordered welterweight titleholder Devin Haney and mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis to begin negotiations to fight each other next.  What about this fight proposed vs. Shakur Stevenson? The guys have takes.

And, lightweight Edwin De Los Santos is appealing his second-round knockout loss in a rematch with Jose Valenzuela that headlined Zuffa Boxing 08 on Sunday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Valenzuela clearly hit him while he was down.  We give you all the angles.

Flamboyant new WBC featherweight champ Bruce "Shu Shu" Carrington is back this weekend on the Top Rank Boxing card this Saturday night July 4th in Cleveland, OH.

Carrington, 17-0, 10 KOs, who will make his first defense against unbeaten contender Rene Palacios in the co-feature of the DAZN card, which is also the first edition of “The Fight” series that will simulcast on TNT Sports and truTV.

Shu Shu, never at a loss for words, talks the matchup and his desire to become undisputed at 126 lb. as well.

They start with the recap of Saturday night’s Matchroom/Top Rank DAZN PPV card in Brooklyn, NY
 “Boots” Ennis Scorches Xander Zayas in a TKO 7 and wins WBO/WBA junior middieweight titles. A tremendous showing by Boots, but give Zayas credit as he got off the canvas and had the challenger hurt, but succumbed later in the middle of the fight. What now for both of these guys after a tremendous battle?

Then, on the undercard- Junior welterweight Emiliano Vargas TKO4 Bryce Mills
Light heavyweight Ben Whittaker TKO2 Richie Rivera and Middleweight Jahi Tucker W10 Euri Cedeno. Dan has thoughts on all three of these bouts.

Thenk some news
Lineal heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk vacates WBC, IBF and WBA titles on Friday in a surprising move and then, on Saturday the WBC votes to elevate Agit Kabayel from interim to full title status. Now, what's next for Usyk? And, whom does Kabayel fight?

Next, Canelo Alvarez-Christian Mbilli is now postponed from September 12th to a date TBA in late October. Dan has more from Canelo's side on what's really going on here, besides the speculation that this is all about the Ryan Garcia-Conor Benn fight taking that primetime slot for that September Saturday night.

Continuing, Dmitry Bivoll's manager Vadim Kornilov, who Dan was texting with this weekend, says the  light heavyweight champion is scheduled for July 23 left elbow surgery to clean up loose particles. He plans to fight before the end of the year and the WBO will order the Callum Smith mandatory.

And, Tank Davis is stripped by of WBA lightweight title and made “in recess champion." So, they ordered Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi to fight for the vacant title later this year. We have more.

Next, there's a recap of the exciting IBF Welterweight title fight Wednesday of Aussie Liam Paro defeating Ireland's Lewis Crocker in a close unanimous decision. Paro hung on to a lead on the cards with the champ scoring against him in the final two rounds. Paro is also only the second Australian to be a two division world champ. The guys have more on that and the welterweight picture.

Then, it's the latest news with hall of famer Floyd Mayweather's financial and legal troubles that have now cancelled his scheduled  exhibition in Greece Saturday and are jeopardizing his fights with Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao down the road. WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?!

There is also news on Joe Cordina of Wales being unable to travel to the USA for the July 4th WBO lightweight title fight with Abdullah Mason in Cleveland, OH. Cordina is in trouble with the law in his home country and was denied a visa to the USA. Mason will now fight Ohioian Albert Bell in the main event in his first title defense.

And, finally, the guys go over Oleksandr Usyk and a looming deadline to agree to fight WBC interim heavweight champ Agit Kabayel coming up. Will he fight him or vacate? And, if he does, who does the hard hitting Kabayel meet?

It's a special edition of the "Fight Freaks Unite Podcast" as the courtroom drama involving hall of famer Floyd Mayweather being sued by promoter CSI took to the Southern District Court of NY late Wednesday afternoon.

Host T.J. Rives and insider Dan Rafael, who listened in as a media member to the telephonic court hearing, give the full setup to what went on for almost two hours.

And, then you will hear Judge Vernon Broderick hold the hearing with the plantiffs wanting to stop Mayweather's exhibition fight this Saturday in Greece with kickboxer Mike Zambidis. And, you'll hear the defendants attorneys including for Mayweather with their response.

You'll also hear CSI talk candidly for the first time that they want the judge to enforce the contract, because they want Mayweather to participate in their exhibition with former undisputed heavyweight champ Mike Tyson in CSI's exhibition, first.

The judge is expected to rule to tomorrow, as time is of the essence.
