The community is starving for every piece of information on the massive 267 km² desert of Nasdara, but how much is actually confirmed, and how much is speculation? This week on the DayZ Podcast, Andy and Dave compile and dissect everything we currently know about the upcoming DayZ Badlands DLC—and highlight the massive question marks that remain.
We dive into the intriguing new infrastructure of the map, including the highly-anticipated underground tunnels and the mysterious, war-torn water system where all the common wells are destroyed. We analyze how water scarcity is going to redefine the survival loop, discussing the mechanics of manually searching for and rebuilding water systems versus the threat of player factions locking down these vital spots. What we do know is that survival will be brutal; what we don't know is just how tedious the developers might make the simple act of staying hydrated.
Finally, we address the threat of dynamic sandstorms and extreme heat. While weather anomalies are a great concept to break up the pace, we discuss our fears that these sandstorms might be too harsh, occasionally leaving players trapped inside with nothing to do. We pitch a few creative alternatives for Bohemia to consider—such as utilizing sandstorms as tactical cover for stealth or base raids—to make sure the weather is an active, exciting mechanic rather than a boring lobby wait.
