Aaron Pufal is the man in the van with the plan. This summer he set a new cannonball record on an electric motorcycle, making it coast to coast in just a smidge over 100 hours. But what's crazy is that the first time he ever rode the soon to be record setting Livewire, or any other electric motorcycle, is when he threw a leg over at the start of his cannonball run. It didn't take long for Aaron and his team to realize that they were going to have to throw away their plans and listen to the hard data from the bike. This would tell them the optimal speed for distance and time. And of course finding charging stations wasn't as easy as they thought either, so this required on the spot research and mapping. But thanks to his grit and his team's brains, they managed to successfully make it to the destination and break the previous record be a good margin.

Aaron also runs the ADV Cannonball, which is a whole nother barrel of monkeys. We talk to him about this amazing event, as well as his book, podcast and plans for his next record.

The SEMA show is one of the biggest car shows, but it's really more than that. It's the world's premier trade event for the automotive specialty-equipment and aftermarket industry, and now it's getting even bigger with the addition of motorcycles. So basically, under one roof you will find new cars, old cars, side by sides, trucks, motorcycles and basically anything with a motor. There's restoration, customization, modification, and everything in between. They are especially known for their custom build debuts, showcasing some of the most unique and inspiring vehicles. It's worth going just for the tool vendors, which fill an entire hall by the way. We talk to VP of Events Tom Gattuso who tells us what we can expect.

Part 2 of our Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials interviews. If you haven’t listened to part 1, I recommend checking it out.

Our first two interviews are both with racers on electric motorcycles, but they are completely different. First up is Rennie Scaysbrook who is riding the fully faired Lightning motorcycle with a potential of 250+ mph. He has raced at Isle of Man and Pikes Peak, but this is his first time at Bonneville. He shares with us his first experiences on the salt.

Next up we sit down with Kit and Bear on the Zero with a sidecar. This is their 2nd time at Bonneville, and they are feeling good about the 4 new speed records they set.

But of course none of this would happen without the leadership of Delvene Reber. Liza asks her how she got involved with land speed racing, and how she manages such an amazing team of volunteers.

There are only a few places on this planet where you can go as fast as you can and try set a land speed record, and the Bonneville Salt Flats is the most iconic of those places. With 7 miles of nothing by flat white ground, racing and records have been happening here for over a decade. At the BMST you will see everything from 50cc minibikes to 3000+cc streamliners, all pushing the boundaries of what a motorcycle can and should be able to do. And with the Rung What Ya Brung class, you might even see a Buddy 125 scooter putting down the course (hint hint). Liza and Neal spent the week there, hosting the spectator tent, helping teams out, and coming up with good bad ideas. In this episode, Neal talks about his first experience on the salt, and how it felt to push a buddy scooter to it’s limits. Liza talks to Utah Matt about his first time at the salt flats, and Detroit talks about his first time ever riding a Buell as part of the Buell Brothers Racing Team. Neal sits down with the Sodium Distortion Racing Team, who is generally known as the team to go to when you need help with anything at all.
