There are only a few places on this planet where you can go as fast as you can and try set a land speed record, and the Bonneville Salt Flats is the most iconic of those places. With 7 miles of nothing by flat white ground, racing and records have been happening here for over a decade. At the BMST you will see everything from 50cc minibikes to 3000+cc streamliners, all pushing the boundaries of what a motorcycle can and should be able to do. And with the Rung What Ya Brung class, you might even see a Buddy 125 scooter putting down the course (hint hint). Liza and Neal spent the week there, hosting the spectator tent, helping teams out, and coming up with good bad ideas. In this episode, Neal talks about his first experience on the salt, and how it felt to push a buddy scooter to it’s limits. Liza talks to Utah Matt about his first time at the salt flats, and Detroit talks about his first time ever riding a Buell as part of the Buell Brothers Racing Team. Neal sits down with the Sodium Distortion Racing Team, who is generally known as the team to go to when you need help with anything at all.

Elspeth Beard has become a household name in the motorcycle world, but it hasn’t always been that way. Back in 1982 she headed off on her around the world motorcycle journey, returning home years later and resuming her life in England as an architect and then a mother. It wasn’t until 2017, when her book came out, that the world would come to know Elspeth for her motorcycle journey. We were fortunate to interview her in early 2017 before the book’s release, and then again in 2018 after she had become the legend we know of her today. Enjoy these two back to back episodes.
