  • Jonny Smith: Hillman Avenger, Mad-Maxi, Austin Allegro, Montego, Cavalier, New cars should be bright! S6E3
Send us a textIt was a real pleasure to have Motoring Journalist, TV and You Tuber Jonny Smith join us for a full fat chat about cars of yesteryear. His story starts with a couple of British classics. A Harvest Gold Austin Allegro belonging to his Grandparents, and a Hillman Avenger that his parents owned from 1979 to the late nineties, perhaps even beyond the millennium! We take in an Austin Maxi with a ‘drink driver facelift’ which his Dad repaired overnight with piano wire, ready for work the next day. There’s a Vauxhall Carlton, an honourable mention for the Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier Estate (apparently built in Australia by Holden). We also speak about a white Austin Rover Montego estate, why used car dealers have bunting, and more puzzlingly always leave the boot of a car open, when on display. We finish things up with a chat about gifting books to schools, and incentivising car manufacturers painting their cars bright colours rather than ‘soviet grey’ or appliance white. It goes without saying we recommend you take a listen to the wonderful Smith and Sniff Podcast, and check out The Late Brake Show on You Tube. https://smithandsniff.com/https://www.youtube.com/@TheLateBrakeShowSupport the showWe’d love you to hear and share your stories, please tag and follow us on social media. www.instagram.com/mydadscar_podcastwww.Facebook.com/mydadscar podcastwww.buymeacoffee.com/mydadscarIf you’d like to support the podcast and are able to, you can ‘buy us a coffee’ which will help towards costs of hosting and purchasing equipment to allow us to record guests in person, rather than just on zoom. • Stuart Weaver: Dad cut up a priceless MG and threw it in the Thames! Mum's Fiat 500, MGA, MGBGT, Male Breast Cancer Awareness S6E2
Send us a textWe're joined by Stuart Weaver for today's episode.Recommended to us by previous guest, Jamie Orr's mum no less, Stuart is a survivor of male breast cancer, and met Sally Orr through her work in this field. Stuart's parents have had their fair share of MG's - and some of them are still in the family now.His Dad beat Adam Faith to a red MGA, and was due to use it as Stuart's wedding car. However, a ladder fell on it the night before, and it's never really be used since. His Mum used to drive him around in a Fiat 500, but has had a couple of MG BGT's and currently there's a blue one on his parents drive awaiting re-commissioning. We also touch on Stuart's history with breast cancer, and we urge you to take 2 minutes to check yourselves over, and report any suspicious lumps or discharges to your Doctor ASAP. We should add, we're publishing this on April 15th, which by sheer fluke is Stuart's Dads birthday!! We hope you enjoy this episode! Support the showWe’d love you to hear and share your stories, please tag and follow us on social media. www.instagram.com/mydadscar_podcastwww.Facebook.com/mydadscar podcastwww.buymeacoffee.com/mydadscarIf you’d like to support the podcast and are able to, you can ‘buy us a coffee’ which will help towards costs of hosting and purchasing equipment to allow us to record guests in person, rather than just on zoom. • John Marcar from Driven Podcast: Mum's brown Cortina. Nissa Micra, Bluebird, Dad’s BMWs S6E1
Send us a textWe're joined this week by John Marcar, the host and driving force behind the driven.site podcast, and website. We met John up at the NEC at the end of last year, and whilst we didn't manage to sync our watches to record at the show, we sat down a few weeks later to have a proper chat. From a chocolate brown Ford Cortina, to a K10 Micra, gifted to his Mum by his caring Auntie, to a Nissan Bluebird and his Father's access to exec level company cars through his work in a garage. There was plenty to influence John, and help pave his way towards a career with cars. We hope you enjoy this chat, and please also go and check out what John gets up to as well. Website: DrivenSupport the showWe’d love you to hear and share your stories, please tag and follow us on social media. www.instagram.com/mydadscar_podcastwww.Facebook.com/mydadscar podcastwww.buymeacoffee.com/mydadscarIf you’d like to support the podcast and are able to, you can ‘buy us a coffee’ which will help towards costs of hosting and purchasing equipment to allow us to record guests in person, rather than just on zoom. • Bonus Episode: Give your Car Books to Schools NOT Charity Shops!
Send us a textRecently whilst clearing out my loft, I've found lots of old car books from when i was a kid. Rather than take them to a charity shop, for another 40-something guy to buy for a quid and stash in his study, i chose to give them to my kids school, in the hope they might just inspire the next generation. So, if you've got any old car books at home, please do the same - these kids (and our hobby) need your help. This episode is a bonus. Season Six will commence on the 1st April 2025.Support the showWe’d love you to hear and share your stories, please tag and follow us on social media. www.instagram.com/mydadscar_podcastwww.Facebook.com/mydadscar podcastwww.buymeacoffee.com/mydadscarIf you’d like to support the podcast and are able to, you can ‘buy us a coffee’ which will help towards costs of hosting and purchasing equipment to allow us to record guests in person, rather than just on zoom. About My Dad's Car

Andy and Jon have discussions with invited guests about their personal relationships with automotive nostalgia. Each episode kicks of by us asking “what’s your earliest car memory?”From there it’s a journey back through time towards the modern day, but generally focusing on vehicles we remember from childhood. We ask about music, smells, smoking, breakdowns, selling, buying, accidents and more. Despite the podcast title, we don’t discriminate against cars belonging to other people, such as Mum’s, Gran’s, Uncle’s, Aunts, friends, or even a neighbours. If it made an impression, we want to talk about it.Likewise, this isn't a 'dead Dad's' podcast, but we do like to remember those who have passed, and have found it to be therapeutic to speak about our late Fathers whilst recording these shows. Season 1 - February - May 2023Season 2 - July 2023 - November 2023Season 3 - November 2023 - March 2024Season 4 - April 2024 - September 2024Season 5 - October 2024 - March 2025Season 6 - April 2025 - Hosted by Andy Gregory and Jon Recknell. Want to be a guest?
