This week, co-hosts Reps. Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) were joined by Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) to talk about the cost of living crisis facing American families, from groceries to gas and school supplies. They discuss the urgent need to build more housing to lower costs, and how the recently passed bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was a step in the right direction.
Then, Rep. Pettersen updates viewers on her effort to allow new parents in Congress to vote by proxy, which she discussed on The Fly-In last year after Speaker Johnson shut down the House to block a vote on her bill. Additionally, they respond to Trump’s announcement last week at the Republican Midterm Convention that every American adult will receive a $5,000 “dividend” if Republicans keep their majority—an action that would cost over $1.3 trillion.

Beyer, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and Chair of the New Dem Trade Task Force, shares how this latest round of tariffs on Canadian imports are raising prices on American consumers and why this Administration’s approach to trade policy is dangerous and expensive.
Rep. Beyer is also one of the leading experts in Congress on AI, after recently returning to school to get his Master’s in machine learning. The members discuss the many ways in which AI has impacted Americans’ daily lives, and what Congress needs to do to prevent this new technology from getting out of control while still promoting American innovation.
