  • Convicted Killer Tells All to a Shrink: The Kevin Lane Story
Welcome back to The New Mind, the place where we explore the edges of human experience, the depths of resilience, and the stories that shape the way we see the world.Today, we’re sitting with a man whose story isn’t just about prison walls and headlines…it’s about the fight for truth, the cost of injustice, and the human capacity to keep going when the system says you shouldn’t.Kevin Lane spent over two decades in some of the UK’s toughest prisons, convicted of a crime he’s always insisted he didn’t commit. But this episode isn’t about guilt or innocence…it’s about what happens to the mind, the body, and the soul when life as you know it is taken from you. It’s about the way we survive isolation. The way we reconstruct meaning. The way we refuse to be defined by the darkest chapters of our story.Kevin’s journey is raw, complex, and uncomfortable at times…but it’s also deeply human. We talk about his experience of being ‘fitted up,’ the psychological endurance it took to get through those years, and the fight he continues to this day…not just for himself, but for anyone who’s ever been silenced by power. This isn’t just an interview. It’s a conversation about systems that break us, identities we rebuild, and the quiet rebellion of choosing to live, even when life feels impossible. So, wherever you are…whether you’re walking, driving, or just taking a moment to yourself…I invite you to slow down, lean in, and join me in this powerful, unapologetic exploration of what it means to have a new mind.Let’s get into it.Subscribe to The New Mind podcast for more uplifting and insightful conversations that explore the depths of mental health, personal growth, and inspiring stories of individuals making a difference in the world.Thank youConnect with me: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ellamccrystal Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ellamccrystalhypno   TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ella_mccrystalWeb: https://www.ellamccrystal.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@EllaMcCrystalConnect with Kevin: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fittedupandfightingbackWeb: https://kevinlanebooks.com/Shop: https://kevinlanebooks.com/X: https://x.com/kevinlane_fufb

  • Muscles, Money and Millions... Then Came the Brutal Fall of a TV Icon
Today’s guest is a man whose story is fascinating…jagged….raw…and real.Meet “Shadow” aka Jefferson (Jeff) Michael King! His early life was split between two worlds. Until 14 he was living in the U.K., then he was sent to New York to live with his mum. Whilst there he thrived as an athlete, finding power in his body…but losing his grip in the rising tide of crack addiction that swept the New York streets in the late 70s.His mother, desperate to save him, sent him back to England. But addiction doesn’t listen to geography. He relapsed, again and again. Until something shifted. He fought for his life, entered the world of bodybuilding, and stepped into the national spotlight as “Shadow” - a fierce and unforgettable presence on ITV’s Gladiators. But fame doesn’t fix what festers underneath.A news scandal cost him his career. Addiction returned like a ghost he could never quite bury. He lost everything…his wife, his children, his home. For nearly two decades, he lived in a cycle of heroin, crack, homelessness, and prison. There were moments of redemption. Moments where it looked like healing had won. He worked in rehab, made peace with his past, reconnected with his family. But the path of recovery isn’t linear. And in 2021, it all unravelled again…this time into a prison sentence of over six years. And yet…he’s still here.So why tell this story?Because it matters.Because some people fall and never get up. Others fall a thousand times and still find a way to rise, even if the rising is messy and incomplete. This is not a story of a perfect comeback. It’s the story of a man still fighting for his life, for his dignity, for his place in the world. And sometimes…t hat’s the most human story of all.Let’s begin…Subscribe to The New Mind podcast for more uplifting and insightful conversations that explore the depths of mental health, personal growth, and inspiring stories of individuals making a difference in the world.Thank youConnect with me: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ellamccrystal Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ellamccrystalhypno   TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ella_mccrystalWeb: https://www.ellamccrystal.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@EllaMcCrystalConnect with Jeff: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/officialshadowgladiatorWeb: https://www.gladiatorstv.com/gladiators-uk/classic-itv/shadow/
