This episode features the brilliant Hue and Cry who for are a Scottish pop duo formed in 1983 in Coatbridge by the brothers Pat Kane and Greg Kane. The duo are best known for their 1987 single "Labour of Love" which spent 16 weeks on the UK chart.
They mix soul, jazz, politics and sophisticated pop quite like Hue and arrived during an era dominated by polished pop and indie guitar music — yet somehow carved out a sound that blended Marvin Gaye-style soul, jazz improvisation, working-class politics and sophisticated songwriting.
many of our listeners may know them for “Labour of Love”, but the real story is far richer: jazz collaborations with world-class musicians, political activism, adventurous albums that confused record labels, and a fiercely loyal live audience that has stayed with them for more than four decades.

This Episode features Young Knives (originally THE Young Knives) formed in the early 2000’s in Oxford. If you havent heard of them they are acclaimed for their witty and sometimes surreal songwriting and observations of mundane life.
Their first album in 2006 “Voices of Animals and Men” reached No. 21 in the UK Album Charts and was nominated for the MercuryPrize for best UK album. They are touring the 20th anniversary of the album later this year.
In this episode we feature a short bio of the band as usual and a chat with Henry Dartnall who is the vocalist and guitarist and songwriter in the band. He has some terrific stories and the fact they are still around today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album is testament to their longevity and ability to survive in the Music Industry.

This episode features the band Boy Kill Boy. Formed in 2003. The band are Chris Peck – vocals/guitar, Kevin Chase – bass, Pete Carr – keyboards and Shaz Mahmood – drums. We chat to Chris Peck who talks about the reunion concert this year in October, the band, what happened and how they eventually split up and the reunion. he talks about the highs and the low's and the changing face of the music industry when streaming, downloads and the Internet all impacted on bands around that time. if you don't know the band, they blend indie rock, synth-driven post-punk and dance-punk influences. A big part of the 2004 East London indie scene. Their songs include Suzie, Back Again, Civil Sin and many others. Their songs featured on the video game FIFA 07 and an they also had an appearance on Top Of The Pops. This is an opportunity to hear their music and their story and if you don't know them I think you may want to hear more and if you do know them then its worth reminding yourself or catching up on how everything unfolded.

His career spans six decades — from pub-rock pioneer and bandleader to essential sideman of Graham Parker & the Rumour, to luthier and solo artist in later life. His legacy includes cultivating the pub rock movement and influencing British rock’s move toward direct, roots-based music. Brinsley Schwarz, the band created the infrastructure for UK punk & the working model of grassroots touring. Brinsley Schwarz, both the band and the individual helped shape British new wave songwriting With Nick Lowe and in our view laid the foundation for power pop from 1970's pub rock, punk and New Wave.

Brinsley tells many stories on this episode and we sample some of the great music from the band and his solo career. If you havent heard Brinsley chat before then you are in for a treat and if you have then you know whats coming!.

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine or Carter USM were a South London band around From 1988 - initially splitting after 10 years in 1998. In that time they achieved a number 1 album, headlined the Glastonbury pyramid stage and sold over a million records. Their sound was a soundscape of energy - layering thrashing guitars over backing tracks of samples, sequenced basses and drum machines. The lyrics were rich in social commentary and loaded with clever wordplay. Their gigs were riot of blinding white light, crowd-surfing mayhem. Formed by Jim Bob and Fruitbat in this episode we chat to Jim Bob about the band, his solo career and everything in between.
