The Perrons did not describe one spirit. They believed the farmhouse held many distinct presences, some harmless, some frightening, and one apparently hostile toward Carolyn Perron.

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren later entered the case, and a séance inside the house reportedly ended in a terrifying episode involving Carolyn and a confrontation with Roger Perron. Yet there was no final exorcism, and the family remained in the house for years.

The most famous name attached to the case is Bathsheba Sherman. She was a real nineteenth-century woman, but historical research does not establish that she was a witch, murderer, Satanist, or the force portrayed in Hollywood.
