  • Cassandra Snow
This month author and professional tarot reader Cassandra Snow joins me to discuss Rachel Pollack's classic Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom. While it's been called the tarot bible, it does have some detractors. Cassandra and I discuss the impact the book and Pollack has had on tarot reading and practice—both for Cassandra and in general, the breadth of knowledge Pollack brings to the text, and her brilliance as a writer. We also address a few of those criticisms. You can pick up a copy of Tarot in Other Words, a book of essays by queer tarot readers, authors and deck creators edited by Cassandra, wherever you buy books. You can learn more about Cassandra's other work, book a tarot reading, and get their social media details from their website.Next month I'll be joined by author and editor Judika Illes to discuss the Soviet Era samizdat classic The Master and the Margarita by Mikhail Bulgacov. Originally published as a complete book in Paris in 1967 after being passed around as an underground manuscript for nearly 30 years, the book has been translated into multiple languages. If you are reading along, it is available in English as a paperback and in digital and audiobook formats. My library had all three available.WitchLit listeners receive 15% off their purchases at La Panthére Studio with the code WITCHLIT.Please support Black, Indigenous, queer, trans, and women-owned, local, independent bookstores and occult shops.Transcripts of all episodes are available at witchlitpod.com. • Katta Kis
This month romance author Katta Kis joined me to chat about the controversial classic, The Satanic Witch, originally published as The Compleat Witch or What to do When Virtue Fails. I'm not sure what either of us really expected but I think we both left feeling like we'd learned more about Anton LaVey's personal peccadilloes that we did about Satanism. Katta and I discuss the sexism, context, and LaVey's general obsession with what now seems like very traditional ideas of what it means to be a woman. You can pick up a copy of Katta's latest book Love at the Rock Show wherever you buy books and find links to social media, events, etc on her website.Next month, Cassandra Snow will be joining me to discuss Rachel Pollack's Seventy-eight Degrees of Wisdom. The book has been in print since it was first released in two parts in 1980, so there are second hand copies galore as well as a newish release from Weiser with a new preface by Pollack. Digital and audiobook versions are also available, so check your local library too.WitchLit listeners receive 15% off their purchases at La Panthére Studio with the code WITCHLIT.Please support Black, Indigenous, queer, trans, and women-owned, local, independent bookstores and occult shops.Transcripts of all episodes are available at witchlitpod.com. • Charles Harrington
This month, author and tarot deck creator Charles Harrington joined me to discuss The Oracle Glass by Judith Merkle Riley. There's a lot of ground to cover with a book this expansive, but we hit on what fiction gets right and wrong about reading the future, thoughts on identity and persona, and lots and lots of asides on tarot and the history of the occult.Charles's latest book is Tarot and Oracle Card Reading for Dummies and is available wherever books are sold. He has developed and written guide books for several tarot and oracle decks including the The Odyssey Oracle, The Tarot of the Vampires, The Murder of Crows Tarot, available at bookstores and fine occult shops everywhere.Next month, Katta Kis (Love in the Liner Notes, Love at the Rock Show) will be joining me to talk about Anton LaVey's 1971 book The Compleat Witch, republished as The Satanic Witch in 1988. The original is a rare book collectible with a price tag to match, but the reprint is widely available used and as an ebook.WitchLit listeners receive 15% off their purchases at La Panthére Studio with the code WITCHLIT.Please support Black, Indigenous, queer, trans, and women-owned, local, independent bookstores and occult shops.Transcripts of all episodes are available at witchlitpod.com.
