  • Episode 66: Dilexit Nos in a Year - Session 13 - Worshiping Christ
Pope Francis begins Chapter 3 of Dilexit Nos with paragraphs 48-51, clarifying the church's historical precedence for preferring the devotion to the Sacred Heart above other devotions as it is the inseparable from the person of Jesus Christ and the unbounded love of Christ for us. Each session of Dilexit Nos in a Year begins by breaking open the scriptures and topics covered in order to outline the themes of Pope Francis, and frame our conversations for the weekly discussion for the year ahead. For the next 50 weeks, we will work through four to five paragraphs reading of the text of Dilexit Nos, with opening prayer, and short reflection based upon the paragraphs covered and the prayerful discussions of the questions to ponder together as we reflect on the work of spiritual and communal formation and mission in this Jubilee Year of Hope. Dilexit Nos (https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/20241024-enciclica-dilexit-nos.html) - Chapter 3, Paragraphs 48-51 Worshiping Christ Prayer Love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, embrace my heart. Fire of the Heart of Jesus, inflame my heart. Charity of the Heart of Jesus, fill my heart. Strength of the Heart of Jesus, sustain my heart. Mercy of the Heart of Jesus, pardon my heart. Patience of the Heart of Jesus, do not forsake my heart. Reign of the Heart of Jesus, establish Yourself in my heart. Wisdom of the Heart of Jesus, teach my heart. Will of the Heart of Jesus, guide my heart. Zeal of the Heart of Jesus consume my heart. Jesus, make our hearts more like your own. PIUS VI, Constitution Auctorem Fidei (https://novusordowatch.org/pius6-auctorem-fidei/) (28 August 1794), 63: DH 2663. Annum Sacram (https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_l-xiii_enc_25051899_annum-sacrum.html) - Leo XIII - Annum Sacram - Consecration of the World to the Sacred Heart of Jesus - 1899 Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart by Pope Leo XIII (https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/resource/55304/prayer-of-consecration-to-the-sacred-heart-by-pope-leo-xiii) Issued with the Encyclical Letter Annum Sacrum, 25 May 1899 Most sweet Jesus, redeemer of the human race, look down upon us, humbly prostrate before your altar. We are yours and yours we wish to be; but to be more surely united with you, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to your most sacred heart. Many, indeed, have never known you, many too, despising your precepts, have rejected you. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to your sacred heart. Be you king, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken you, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned you; grant that they may quickly return to their father's house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be you king of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one shepherd. Be you king also of all those who sit in the ancient superstition of the Gentiles, and refuse not you to deliver them out of darkness into the light and kingdom of God. Grant, O Lord, to your Church, assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the divine heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor forever. Amen. Office for Evangelization website: www.rcan.org/evangelization Our original theme music is "Meditation" by Eric Hunter. - www.erichuntermusic.com

Sung by Shepherds - Virgil Thomson (1896 - 1989) Welcome all wonders in one sight! Eternity shut in a span! Summer in winter! day in night! Heaven in earth! and God in man! Great little one, whose all-embracing birth Lifts earth to Heaven, stoops Heaven to earth! Welcome, tho' nor to gold, nor silk To more than Cæsar's birthright is: Twin sister seas of virgin's milk With many a rarely-temper'd kiss That breathes at once both maid and mother Warms in the one, cools in the other She sings Thy tears asleep, and dips Her kisses in Thy weeping eye: She spreads the red leaves of Thy lips That in their buds yet blushing lie She 'gainst those mother diamonds tries The points of her young eagle's eyes.* Welcome—tho' not to those gay flies Gilded i' th' beams of earthly kings Slippery souls in smiling eyes— But to poor shepherds, homespun things Whose wealth's their flocks, whose wit's to be Well read in their simplicity Yet, when April's husband show'rs Shall bless the fruitful Maia's bed We'll bring the first-born of her flowers To kiss Thy feet, and crown Thy head To Thee, dread Lamb ! whose love must keep The shepherds while they feed their sheep To Thee, meek Majesty, soft King Of simple graces and sweet loves! Each of us his lamb will bring Each his pair of silver doves! At last, in fire of Thy fair eyes Ourselves become our own best sacrifice! A Christian prayer in union with creation from LAUDATO SI’ OF THE HOLY FATHER FRANCIS (https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html) Father, we praise you with all your creatures. They came forth from your all-powerful hand; they are yours, filled with your presence and your tender love. Praise be to you! Son of God, Jesus, through you all things were made. You were formed in the womb of Mary our Mother, you became part of this earth, and you gazed upon this world with human eyes. Today you are alive in every creature in your risen glory. Praise be to you! Holy Spirit, by your light you guide this world towards the Father’s love and accompany creation as it groans in travail. You also dwell in our hearts and you inspire us to do what is good. Praise be to you! Triune Lord, wondrous community of infinite love, teach us to contemplate you in the beauty of the universe, for all things speak of you. Awaken our praise and thankfulness for every being that you have made. Give us the grace to feel profoundly joined to everything that is. God of love, show us our place in this world as channels of your love for all the creatures of this earth, for not one of them is forgotten in your sight. Enlighten those who possess power and money that they may avoid the sin of indifference, that they may love the common good, advance the weak, and care for this world in which we live. The poor and the earth are crying out. O Lord, seize us with your power and light, help us to protect all life, to prepare for a better future, for the coming of your Kingdom of justice, peace, love and beauty. Praise be to you! Amen. Given in Rome at Saint Peter’s on 24 May, the Solemnity of Pentecost, in the year 2015, the third of my Pontificate. Pope Francis begins Chapter 2 of Dilexit Nos, by speaking about way Jesus embodied closeness and tenderness, in action as much as in speech. He speaks about the science of true love having two natures, "deeds and gift of self." Each session of Dilexit Nos in a Year begins by breaking open the scriptures and topics covered in order to outline the themes of Pope Francis, and frame our conversations for the weekly discussion for the year ahead. The Difficult Science of Love - Pope Francis (https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/cotidie/2013/documents/papa-francesco-cotidie_20130607_science-love.html) Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O Lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me. - St.Ignatius Loyola Office for Evangelization website: www.rcan.org/evangelization Our original theme music is "Meditation" by Eric Hunter. - www.erichuntermusic.com
