What if I told you that one of Real Madrid’s newest superstars once dreamed simply of owning a proper pair of football boots?

This is the remarkable life story of Yan Diomandé, the Ivory Coast international whose journey began in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, playing football on sun-baked pitches and sometimes wearing sandals because boots cost money. A kind man named Bamba eventually bought him a pair, before Yan left home at just nine years old to chase an extraordinary dream.

His journey would take him from an academy near Ghana to the United States, where he starred for AS Frenzi, and then across Europe for trials with clubs including Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Rangers. None signed him. Eventually, Yan returned home wondering whether his dream was finished.

    It wasn't.

Yan earned his chance with Leganés, made his La Liga debut at the Santiago Bernabéu, exploded with RB Leipzig, scored a Bundesliga hat-trick aged just 19, represented Côte d’Ivoire at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and eventually completed an enormous move to Real Madrid.

But behind the goals is an even more powerful story of kindness, rejection, family, perseverance and the extraordinary belief of Yan’s little sister Roxane.

This is not simply the story of becoming a footballer.

It is a story about continuing to write the next page when everyone else thinks your story is finished.

Premier League 2025/26 season review for kids and families!

In this Football For Kids Classic episode, Darren Rees looks back on one of the wildest Premier League seasons ever, full of champions, shocks, relegation drama, record breakers and emotional goodbyes.

Arsenal are Premier League champions again after 22 long years! We look at how Mikel Arteta’s side finally brought the title back to North London, with David Raya winning the Golden Glove, Viktor Gyökeres scoring important goals, and Arsenal turning corners into their secret football superpower.

But while Arsenal celebrated, other clubs suffered heartbreak. West Ham United were relegated despite beating Leeds United on the final day, Burnley dropped straight back down, and Wolves finished bottom after a miserable season. Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, survived by the skin of their teeth after a nerve-shredding final-day win over Everton.

We also explore the players who made Premier League history: Erling Haaland winning another Golden Boot, Bruno Fernandes breaking the single-season assist record, and Fulham vs Manchester City producing a bonkers nine-goal thriller at Craven Cottage.

And then come the goodbyes. Pep Guardiola leaves Manchester City after 10 incredible years. Bernardo Silva says farewell. Mohamed Salah waves goodbye to Liverpool after becoming one of Anfield’s greatest ever heroes.

This is a fun screen-free football podcast episode for kids, parents and Premier League fans of all ages. Joy, heartbreak, goals, drama, trophies, trapdoors and goosebumps.

Because football never really ends. It just catches its breath… and starts again.

The incredible Danny Welbeck story continues as we follow the former Manchester United, England, Arsenal and Brighton striker through triumph, heartbreak, devastating injuries and one extraordinary football comeback.

In Part Two, Danny returns to Manchester United and becomes a Premier League regular alongside Wayne Rooney, scores at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid in the Champions League and finishes the 2012/13 season as a Premier League champion.

Then comes England. We discover Welbeck's first senior international goal, his unforgettable back-heel winner against Sweden at Euro 2012, and a Three Lions career which eventually brought 42 England caps and 16 goals. The FA confirms those final England numbers.

We follow Danny's £16 million move from Manchester United to Arsenal, his brilliant Champions League hat-trick against Galatasaray and then the darkest period of his career: knee surgery, months of rehabilitation, another serious knee injury and a horrific ankle injury. Yet after almost ten months out, Welbeck returned against Leicester City and scored a dramatic last-gasp winner. Arsenal's own records confirm that famous comeback goal.

Then comes the rebirth at Brighton & Hove Albion, where Welbeck becomes a leader, plays European football and, at 35, produces the best Premier League goalscoring season of his career with 13 goals.

And finally, another astonishing twist: Danny Welbeck joins Chelsea at 35 years old, ready for yet another Premier League adventure. Chelsea's summer rebuild under Xabi Alonso includes both Welbeck and former Sunderland teammate Jordan Henderson.

This is a story about talent, football and trophies. But above everything else, it is about hard work, resilience, believing in yourself and NEVER giving up.
