Rebekah Brown: Unpacking Perimenopause & The Beauty of Community in Mid Life
In this week’s episode Natalie is joined by Rebekah Brown, founder and head of research at wellness community MPOWDER. In an educational and enlightening conversation Natalie and Rebekah discuss their own personal journeys with the early symptoms of perimenopause and how for Rebekah, it was the catalyst to her creating the first blend from MPOWDER’S award winning supplement range. Rebekah details how she launched the company during the pandemic alongside a group of 60 women who worked with Rebekah and her team to refine the first blend, Peri Boost. Using scientific research alongside feedback from women with genuine perimenopause symptoms MPOWDER quickly gained momentum as a trusted product to alleviate perimenopause symptoms, resulting in CULT beauty adding the brand to their retail stores with Selfridges & John Lewis following suit. Discussing MPOWDER’S success Rebekah notes that whilst the brand has grown significantly, she has also faced challenges and that there is a distinct lack of funding given to female founders and particularly those in the women’s health space. She highlights that only 2% of government funding is given to women’s reproductive health and that in order for more women to feel well during this transitional phase of life, more must be done in terms of education and the distribution of investment. Elsewhere in the conversation Natalie & Rebekah talk MPOWDER’s growing success in the US and that whilst the menopause conversation is only just opening up with American audiences, with a concentrated focus on preventative medicine and high profile women such as Naomi Watts and Halle Berry discussing their experiences, the discussion is fast gaining pace.
