Will we ever get off the yo-yo diet train?
TRIGGER WARNING: This episode does refer to binge eating and eating disorders at points throughout.Yo-yo dieting aka the binge-purge cycle is something that has been around for decades and even though it gets rebranded with other descriptions like detoxes or surrounded with phrases like ‘cheat days’ it’s still the same thing. Basically moving from periods of (often extreme) restriction to going all out.We both feel quite passionate about how detrimental this cycle can be so in this week’s episode we talk in and around this all too familiar pattern. We also address both the physical and mental negative effects it can have as well as the role that culture and society has on pushing the same ‘ideal’ narrative. This is probably going to resonate with a lot of you and potentially provoke divisive opinions but we want to hear them all so please get in touch. This episode is sponsored by Ancient and Brave and produced by Elisa Kennedy.Thank you for listening and if you like the show please give us a good review and follow us so you don’t miss an episode - just click on the show page and press the plus sign. Welcome to The Wellness Breakdown where we explore the tricky world of wellness, discover what's new and interesting but more importantly weed out the fakes. In seasons 1-4 our two hosts, Eve Kalinik and Rose Ferguson, set challenges for each other to try a fad diet, test a heath gadget or explore an issue that's become the latest craze and report back. For Season 5 the focus will be more on issues that are personal to them and their listeners, so less of the challenges and more discussion around these subjects.Rose Ferguson is a nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner & Eve Kalinik is a nutritional therapist and author.
