    Chat with Melanie Duriez

    07/11/2024 | 32 mins.
Melanie is an accredited Sober Coach and Reiki practitioner working out of Montreal, Canada. Quit drinking in April 2021 after years of unsuccessful attempts at moderating, and life changed completely. After started drinking in her teens, mostly out of peer pressure and then not drinking that much in her twenties, Melanie was a social drinker and didn't have a lot of money to spend on alcohol back then. Drinking started ramping up in her thirties, when the pressure of making a living intensified and cracks began to appear in her marriage. It effectively went from social drinking to emotional crutch. This would only become clear in hindsight, though, once actually becoming sober! The pandemic was the turning point in her drinking career. Taking the first month off the booze in January 2020, then three from April to June 2020 felt incredible, transformed even, and was sure she could finally moderate, as had no desire to drink (but still hadn't internalized the fact that alcohol is toxic and does nothing for you). Six months later, back to a bottle of wine a night. Quitting for good in April 2021 and hasn't looked back. Melanie decided to become a sober coach after having a dream, where she was doing just that! Listening to Janey Lee Grace's Alcohol Free Life podcast for years, and on hearing her talk about the latest training that was coming up, decided to enroll and hasn't looked back!
